Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television reporter, commentator anchor and commentator for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her professional career as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976, she was a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). In Washington she was named general reporter by NBC News two year later. Beginning in 1981 she started reporting from the White House. In 1988, she became head of the congressional reporters. Then, in 1992 she was made Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell was a host and panelist in the TV news show Meet the Press. She participated as a member of a panel discussion at the the 1988 Presidential Debates, which featured George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in the John F. Kennedy School of Government. In 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her contribution in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering in the White House in 1981-1988, and during the presidency of Ronald Reagan. She covered a wide range of interesting stories such as arms control the budget tax reform as well as the Iran-contra scandal and was frequently along with President Reagan to summits alongside Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
